The Mission of the YWCA Racial Justice Committee is "to educate the Greater Syracuse community on racial justice, resulting in positive action to improve the quality of life in our community." One
of the ways in which this Committee demonstrates their commitment to this
Mission is the Academy of Diversity Achievers.
YWCA Academy of Diversity Achievers
- The YWCA Academy of Diversity Achievers is a ‘Hall of Fame’ for
Central New Yorkers working to eradicate racism.
The YWCA Syracuse & Onondaga County is seeking nominations for the current class
of Diversity Achievers.
- Each year the YWCA offers corporations and organizations an opportunity to nominate individuals in their organization or
in the community who have demonstrated interest in promoting diversity and
eliminating racism, which embodies the YWCA mission.
- The award recipients represent a varied group of Central New Yorkers making a difference in their workplaces and their communities. Individuals selected to the Academy have directly helped in the YWCA mission of promoting diversity and eliminating racism either by participating and supporting programs which promote and embrace diversity, supporting opportunities for women’s growth and leadership, or the person embodies the spirit of peace, justice, freedom, and dignity.
- Individuals are inducted at the YWCA’s Day of Commitment to Eliminate Racism and Promote Diversity Luncheon each year.
- Date: April 23, 2008
- Location: Convention Center at the ONCENTER in downtown Syracuse
