Women to Work Program
In 1998, the Women to Work Program was created to serve as a vehicle to help women in the Residence Program develop the knowledge and skills they need to become confident, competent, productive members in today’s working society.
The primary goal of the Women of Work Program today is to increase sustainable employment and economic security for women by providing them life skills and soft skills training, job skills and professional development trainings, financial literacy trainings and access to employment. We use a number of sources and tools to educate and advance the women in the program.
Women to Work consists of four (4) quarterly cohorts with 8-10 participants that will partake in daily/weekly trainings over the course of one (1) quarter. After the completion of each cohort, job coaching will take place over the next six (6) months after the women have secured employment.
Each cohort consists of a four (4) week training, which is:
Life Skills Training
Duration: 1 Week
Dates: Monday – Friday | 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Location: YWCA Women’s Residence
Life Skills Training will focus on:
- Positive Self Talk
- Identifying Patterns in Relationships
- Stress Management
- Emotional Intelligence
- Self-Esteem
- Resilience
- Organizational Skills
- Communication
- Conflict Resolution
Customer Service Training
Duration: 1 week
Dates: Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday | 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Location: YWCA of Syracuse & Onondaga County Main Office
Customer Service Skills Training will focus on:
- Self Awareness
- Attitudes for Service
- Professionalism
- First Impressions
- Customer Satisfaction
- De-escalating Upset Customers
- Healthy Boundaries
- Team Management
Computer Skills Training
Duration: 2 weeks
Dates: Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday | 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Location: YWCA of Syracuse & Onondaga County Main Office
Computer Skills Training will focus on:
- Basic computer skills
- Microsoft Word
- Excel
- PowerPoint
- Email Communication
- File Management
- Navigating a Website
