Girls’ Summit

Girls’ Summit is a hands-on career exploration day that introduces students in grades 5th to 10th to non-traditional fields in science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math (S.T.E.A.M.).

This event was held at SUNY ESF on Saturday, April 20th. The day included a series of workshops, a keynote address, and a women in business panel focused on opportunities in science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math.

The event ran from 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the ESF campus (GATEWAY) where participants had the opportunity to rotate through 4 of 8 hands-on workshops. Each workshop, lasting approximately 45 minutes, engaged students through interactive activities.

This year's workshops included Paper Making and Testing, Economics, and Chemistry with ESF, Teddy Bear Surgery and Pet First Aid with the Cicero Veterinary Clinic, Biochemical and Chemical Engineering with SU, and more!

The morning keynote was given by Dr. Autumn Elniski, a Postdoctoral Scholar and Visiting Assistant Professor at SUNY-ESF with experience in teaching and curriculum at Syracuse University. Dr. Elniski's passion lies in training engineering students for their careers and improving collegiate STEAM education for better student learning.

The goal of the Girls' Summit is to empower, motivate, educate, and challenge perceptions of girls and women in S.T.E.A.M fields. However, this event is inclusive and open to all individuals, regardless of sex, gender, or gender identity.
