Youth Sports Specialist
Part-Time | Salary: $16,900
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 3–6 PM + select Saturdays
Department: Youth Leadership & Development Programs
Reports to: Youth Sports Program Manager
About the Role
The Youth Sports Specialist plays a key role in advancing equity in youth sports across Syracuse. This position is designed for a coach-mentor who believes that every child—regardless of background—deserves a chance to play, grow, and belong. You’ll help deliver YWCA soccer and Girls Inc. programs that break down barriers to participation and create inclusive, empowering environments where all youth can thrive.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver Equitable Programming: Implement soccer and Girls Inc. activities that emphasize access, inclusion, and social-emotional growth.
Coach with Purpose: Lead assigned teams, model positive behavior, and create a culture of respect, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
Support Participation for All: Track attendance and registration data to identify and address gaps in access or engagement.
Plan Enrichment Opportunities: Coordinate events and experiences that connect youth to mentors, role models, and resources beyond the field.
Maintain Safe, Inclusive Spaces: Ensure programming reflects the YWCA’s commitment to equity, safety, and belonging.
Build Family & Community Partnerships: Communicate with parents, caregivers, and community partners to support each child’s participation.
Support Organizational Learning: Maintain records for reporting and grants, helping demonstrate the impact of equitable sports programming.
Be a Visible Advocate: Represent the YWCA at community events and contribute to efforts to expand access to sport in underserved neighborhoods.
Qualifications
Experience: 1-5 years in youth development, coaching, or community engagement.
Knowledge: Understanding of barriers to participation in sports and commitment to equitable solutions.
Skills: Strong organizational and communication abilities, with capacity to build trust across diverse communities.
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in education, recreation, psychology, sociology, or related field.
Required: Valid NYS driver’s license and ability to transport youth when needed.
